Housekeeping:
1) Videos: Instead of posting videos here I've decided I'm just going to post them to my youtube channel and you can check them out from their. I'll provide links for stuff I mention in the blog, but I'll be posting other stuff up there as well. Here's the page.
2) Fantasy Football: I'm putting together a fantasy football keeper league that has a few spots remaining, first come first serve. Leave a comment.
3) Jake Clemons: My brother is in VA but playing shows all over the east cost, go check him out!
Great question!...Mostly nothing. :( But not completely nothing.
The Apartment:
The biggest thing has been adjusting to my new apartment. I no longer live in a room, instead I live in a 3 bedroom LK (living room, kitchen) with my roommate who is supposed to be arriving today. It's fantastic I absolutely love it. If you'd like you can take the video tour here. I spent the first day or two just sitting and thinking, "this place is so big, I don't know what to do with myself" But I eventually got out of that chair and moved to the couch. But seriously though the apartment is really starting to feel comfortable. The previous tennants are friends and now missionaries who left Japan for a year and so left all there furniture and major appliances behind for us to use so that was fantastic. This past weekend I picked up a couch and a desk and now the apartment is really starting to take on a proper "Gabeness". Lots of fun will be had here I believe.
Jazz Camp:
The first week after I got back I co-directed the CAJ summer jazz camp. Videos are here. It was a great week with a lot of fun. The students really enjoyed it and I had a lot of fun. Mostly first timers to the jazz scene so it was awesome to see how much they grew in just a week.
Church:
With my return to Japan I've started to get more involved with my church. I was already helping out on Sunday mornings in the tech booth managing sound/lights/projection, but now I'm doing more. I just started opening and closing the facilities, I've helped out with worship a couple of times and will likely be doing more of that too, and I may be teaching the Middle School Sunday school class. Lots to look forward to there.
Gig:
This coming Friday I'm scheduled to play a set or two at my local "regular" place. It's an American restaraunt owned by Kevin Reno, an American from Florida. Here he is with his wife, Meg:
They're awesome people and on some level consider themselves to be my Japan parents. They make me dinner ever Friday. He's a certified executive Chef and makes some of the best burgers I've ever had. Anyway, on to the gig. They'd been asking me to play for a while and I finally gave in. The way it's looking right now I'll be doing a rock set on guitar/piano and maybe a jazz set on clarinet/sax. I'm somewhat hesitant to do the jazz set sense I'll be by myself, but that's what people want to here the most. I'll post some video of it on my youtube channel afterwards, but be warned, I'm a pretty crappy guitar player.
Travel Plans:
I told many of you I had hoped to make travel out of Tokyo before school starts, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Main issue is because of money, it's not a wise investment at this point to indulge in such a trip. C'est la vie.
Much more to come.
Peace out!
