So even though I'm in Japan I still watch a lot of tv. Thanks to itunes, apple tv, and illegal streaming I'm keeping up with quite a few shows...as time permits. I just wanted to share a few quick thoughts on the shows that I'm watching/excited about.
Community - Back for season three, this has to be my favorite show over the past couple of years. It's consistently funny and the writer's ability to write an entire movie into each episode is quite amazing. If you haven't seen Community you need to.
The Office - We all new it was going to be bad since Michael Scott/Steve Carrell left the show, but I never guest it would be this bad. After the first five minutes of the season premiere I turned to my roommate and asked, "This is a joke right? Things will go back to some place of logic after the opening credits, please?" But they didn't and I quietly watched the rest of the episode as I screamed out of terror in my head. It hurts to say this but if you haven't seen the first episode of the new season yet, don't. I'm giving you fair warning and you'll be upset with yourself if you do.
How I Met Your Mother - I got into this show over the past year and have really enjoyed it. I was surprised to find out it was on CBS since I can't stand that station and didn't know they were capable of such goodness. I will say that it appears that Robin is being written out of the show, and for good reason, she's been miserable over the past season and a half and this season, she's not even attractive. No tears here.
House - This is by far the show I'm most excited about. I was left bewildered with how last season ended and had no idea what was going to happen. And now I saw the new trailer and find out that he's in prison, which makes sense. This was a perfect place for the show to go. It had been struggling in recent seasons to generate an interesting story line and House in prison relieves that pressure. In any event I'm not so sure if this series has a lot left in the tank and could see it ending with House dying in some self-sacrificial manner.
Modern Family - This has been a non-guilty guilty pleasure for me. For me it's been the forgotten sibling to the other shows listed above although it shouldn't be. I don't have a whole lot to say about it other than it's already been off to a great start in the first two episodes and I hope it continues. I guess I will say something about it, This show is weird in the sense that you don't feel engaged with the characters although you love to watch and it's always funny. I've never been as keen to tune into the episode next week with this show as I have with other series.
The New Girl - I just watched the pilot and it left me wondering, how far can Zooey Deschanel's adorableness carry the show? I'm guessing barely through the season, but that'll be it. I can't see myself keeping up with it. They'll be lucky to get another episode or two out of me.
So, that's what I'm watching amongst old seasons of Arrested Development, The Boondocks, Psych, Scrubs (I almost didn't admit it), and The Chappelle Show.
What are you guys watching? Any recommendations?

I watch all the above, except the New Girl. I want to check out suburgatory, or whatever it's called.
ReplyDeleteI kind of like Up All Night, but maybe because of Will Arnett, since I liked him in Running Wilde.
I also watched the first two seasons of the Playboy Club. I like it. If you don't know, it's mostly centered around the Chicago mob, love, and power. Not so much sex and stuff, though with the costumes....anyway, I'd recommend it.
